Note: This is not a paid promotion or advertisement. This is simply my own experience.

Spoonie Sister Shop is a shop I discovered on Instagram that I believe deserves recognition. Spoonie Sister Shop

Spoonie Sister Shop was designed for spoonies by a spoonie. Michelle from Spoonie Sister Shop has been running the Etsy page since 2018 in order to raise awareness. Their goal is to make spoonies feel more confident, feel validated and understood but most importantly, proud of who they are.  Recently, they even have included a gender neutral line.

Spoonie Sister Shop creates clothing, gifts, and accessories surrounding the theme of chronic illness. They also have a blog as well! Their home base is currently located in Dallas, Texas.

So what is a spoonie?

Well a spoonie is a term often used when talking about an individual with a chronic illness. The term "spoonie" relates to the Spoon Theory.

"The theory was developed by Christine Miserandino as a way to express how it felt to have lupus. She used spoons to provide a visual representation of units of energy that a person might have and how chronic illness forces her to plan out her days and actions in advance, so as not to run out of energy, or spoons, before the end of the day".

Quote provided by Spoon theory - Wikipedia

The metaphor works like this: Everyone wakes up with a certain number of spoons each day, some more than other days. Each activity takes away a certain number of spoons. These activities could include things like getting out of bed, cooking dinner, seeing friends etc... Once you have used up all your spoons for the day, it is time to recharge. Now, you can borrow spoons, but, then you will have less spoons for the next day. The only way to gain more spoons is rest.

NORD

Every month, ten percent of their proceeds goes to NORD. NORD stands for National Organization of Rare Disorders. They are a patient advocacy organization with the intention to improve the lives of people who are living with a rare disease via education programs, advocacy, and patient services.
